Well, I'd like to describe a time when I helped my elderly neighbour, Mrs. Chen, who lives alone in the apartment next to mine. Actually, this happened about three months ago during a particularly cold winter week. What happened was I noticed that her heating had broken down and she was too frail to go out and arrange for a repairman herself. To be honest, when I knocked on her door to check on her, I was quite shocked to find her sitting in her living room wrapped in three blankets and shivering. So what I did was I immediately lent her a portable heater from my place and then called a heating engineer to come and fix her boiler. I also went to the shops and picked up some warm soup and groceries for her because she hadn't been able to go out for a couple of days. The repairman came the next morning and sorted everything out, which was a huge relief. I'd say the whole experience made me feel genuinely fulfilled. It wasn't anything heroic, but seeing the look of gratitude on her face was incredibly rewarding. It also made me realize how isolated some elderly people can be, especially during harsh weather. Since then, I've made a habit of checking in on her regularly. I think small acts of kindness can make an enormous difference to someone's life, and honestly, it felt just as good for me as it did for her.
When describing a time you helped someone, paint a vivid picture of the situation first so the examiner understands the context. Show emotional depth by explaining not just what you did, but how it changed your perspective. Avoid sounding boastful — phrases like 'it wasn't anything heroic' keep the tone humble and natural.
