Model Answer

Well, I'd like to talk about the time I completed my first half-marathon, which was about two years ago. Actually, this might not sound like a huge deal to some people, but for me it was a really significant accomplishment because I'd never been much of an athlete growing up. I'd say the whole journey started about six months before the race when a colleague at work suggested we sign up together. At first, I was quite hesitant because the longest I'd ever run was maybe two or three kilometres. But I decided to give it a shot and started following a training programme I found online. To be honest, the first few weeks were incredibly tough. I could barely run for ten minutes without stopping, and there were many mornings when I just wanted to stay in bed rather than go out training. What kept me going was this sense of determination that I didn't want to let myself down. I gradually built up my distance, running three or four times a week regardless of the weather. On the day of the race, I was nervous but also really excited. When I finally crossed the finish line after about two hours and fifteen minutes, I felt this overwhelming wave of emotion. I actually teared up a bit, which I wasn't expecting at all. The reason I'm so proud of this achievement is that it proved to me that I could persevere through something genuinely difficult. It wasn't just about the running itself; it was about the discipline and consistency I developed over those six months. It changed my whole mindset about what I'm capable of.
